Eating a balanced diet and staying in shape are keys to a long and healthy life. Yet for many people, staying in shape can be a challenge. Getting beneficial exercise can be a simple as a walk in the park or playing a round of golf, or as taxing as a vigorous workout at an indoor recreational facility.

With its wealth of beautiful beaches, wooded areas and parks, and lush, rolling golf courses, Michigan is an excellent place for outdoor enthusiasts to participate in recreational activities that are not only pleasurable but also good exercise. Golf Lessons and swimming, tennis and rollerblading are all great sports to enjoy in the summer months, while ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling and skiing are great winter activities. It stands to reason that when we are doing an activity we enjoy, we will do it more often and keep it up for a longer period of time. So, maybe the first step in this health-journey is to find a sport that we like.

What we often overlook when participating in certain sports is how much a lesson or two from a professional can help our performance. While not every sport is meant to be competitive one, and while many folks are not highly competitive by nature, it can be very satisfying to improve our skills in order to play a better game. To participate in something that we not only like but are good at; well, it doesn’t get much better than that.

For those who do enjoy sporting activities, participating two to four times a week would be recommended with perhaps a brisk, thirty minute walk on the off days. Combined with a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein, this is sure to encourage a healthy living experience. We’ll know we are doing something good for ourselves – and not only that, we’ll FEEL good!
